Cosmos version 4.0 represents a significant upgrade of the Cosmos system. Highlights include improvements in performance, an upgraded user interface, and other usability enhancements.

The primary enhancement in Cosmos 4.0 is the migration of the application to Microsoft's SQL Server® database. This migration provides Cosmos with a true client-server architecture that delivers significant security, stability, and performance enhancements, especially in networked, multi-user environments.

Additional significant improvements include an upgraded user interface, analytics and valuation enhancements, especially for Floating Rate Notes, Optimizer improvements, and new workgroup capabilities for multi-user environments.

Highlights of Cosmos 4.0 include:

Technology Improvements

Cosmos now uses Microsoft SQL Server as its underlying database. The result is greater application stability in network environments, and better performance in both multi-user and local installations. Data updates are also processed faster with Cosmos 4.0.

You can now use Cosmos while data updates are running.

Usability Enhancements

There is an updated user interface, including the ability to customize the color scheme.

Cosmos 4.0 no longer uses .por files, instead Cosmos portfolios are now stored directly in the database, improving performance and security.

A new Portfolio Manager utility screen improves portfolio administration, including organizing, opening, deleting, renaming, copying, pasting, and moving portfolios.

Users can now increase or decrease the decimal precision up to six decimal places for the most frequently used Cosmos screens.

Cosmos now remembers user-specific settings, such as report column selections and sizes, decimal precision settings, and distribution and matrix display selections.

The daily update for Nomura indices is now delivered by approximately 3:00 PM Pacific time (7:00 AM Tokyo during Pacific Daylight Time; 8:00 AM Tokyo during Pacific Standard Time).

Analytics and Valuation Enhancements

For each portfolio, Cosmos now saves constituent and holding information for each specific analysis date, creating a "snapshot" of the portfolio on that date.

You can now model callable FRNs to first call date.

Cosmos now allows users to provide user ratings for Barra-delivered assets.

The new Model Rating Priority functionality in Cosmos now allows implied ratings, user ratings, or agency ratings to be used for exposure calculations, based on a user-defined priority.

Implied ratings are now available in Cosmos for Japanese yen-denominated bonds.

New asset-level risk breakdowns added to Analyzed Assets screen.

Optimizer Enhancements

A new Optimizer transaction type allows you to instruct the application to make no sales, and purchase assets only from the universe portfolio

Optimizer case files are now stored in XML format, and can now be created externally in XML format and run automatically using API calls.

New Workgroup Capabilities

New workgroup permissioning functionality allows groups of users to share portfolios, while restricting users not in the workgroup from accessing those portfolios.

Users have the choice of storing portfolios in public folders that are accessible to all users, private folders that are accessible only by that specific user, or workgroup folders that are accessible by a selected group of users (those in the same workgroup).

The New Features Guide details the enhancements in Cosmos 4.0.
